Deciding to see a Counsellor is often a difficult first step, especially for those that have never experienced counselling before. It can be hard for us to express how we feel, and we may be fearful of discussing what is troubling us. We can so often dismiss our own needs in order to fulfil the wishes and expectations of those around us. Finding the time to care for our emotional well-being can be seen as an indulgence and in today’s busy world a necessity we often overlook. The pain and suffering that can come about from suppressing our emotional needs can lead to both physical and mental issues.

I believe that once we truly understand how we think and feel we can gain greater clarity, strength of purpose and become more self-aware. Counselling can allow us to view ourselves in a more positive and constructive way, make different choices for ourselves and recognise the origin of our thoughts and feelings.

Symptoms and life issues that I frequently work with include depression, anxiety, bereavement, grief, relationship issues, low self-esteem and self-confidence and stress. This list is by no means exhaustive, and many people come to counselling because they have a general feeling of low mood and a sense that life is not how they would like it to be.

Above all else, I believe it is the relationship between the Counsellor and client that will provide the best opportunity for change and as such, no matter how big or small the problem seems to you, you will be treated with warmth and respect.
